Dear friend,

We wanted to let you know about a major win that the anti-nuclear movement scored recently.

After pressure from dozens of grassroots organizations and thousands of anti-nuclear activists like you, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) decided to withdraw (for now) its plan to allow Very Long-Lasting Waste (VLLW) to be stored at facilities not licensed for nuclear waste, such as regular landfills. Congratulations to everyone who worked on this!

We recently launched the Who’s Protecting Us? campaign precisely to take the NRC and Congress to task for proposing VLLW and similar plans that jeopardize our health and the environment.

But we can’t pull off this new campaign without your support. Please make a year-end contribution to the Who’s Protecting Us? campaign today. Your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous donor.

VLLW wasn’t the only nuclear waste battle we fought this year. Along with an army of grassroots organizations and individuals, we’ve been fighting against the licensing of so-called “interim” nuclear waste storage facilities in Texas and New Mexico. As usual, the industry is targeting Indigenous and Hispanic communities in their waste storage plans.

These and similar battles against nuclear waste take time, effort, and resources. That’s why your support for the Who’s Protecting Us? campaign is so critical: It will allow us to take this fight directly to the NRC and Congress.

Please make a year-end contribution to the Who’s Protecting Us? campaign today. Your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous donor.

Whether you contribute or not, please share the Who’s Protecting Us?  campaign widely with your friends and family. The dangers of nuclear power are real, and we need our leaders to protect us.

Wishing you all the best in the new year,

The NIRS Team
