Dear friend, Dirty energy is harming millions of people across the globe, and we know things will only get worse if we don’t transition to clean power immediately. That’s why NIRS is joining community leaders who are impacted by fracking, pipelines, refineries, and other fossil fuel projects in a historic protest in Washington D.C. in just ONE week. Will you come to D.C. and join our coalition to demand the end of nuclear power, fossil fuels, and dirty energy? The future of our planet is at stake. We need to send a wake-up call to President Biden and the political establishment in DC. The message on Thursday, October 14 will focus on opposing nuclear power and other false solutions to climate change—so we especially invite you to join the anti-nuclear contingent on that day, if you can. Everyone is invited to join one or more of the days of action. Each day, some protesters will engage in planned nonviolent civil disobedience, such as blocking an entrance to the White House grounds. Civil disobedience is uniquely effective at inspiring others to take action and forcing decision-makers to respond to our demands—just as it has been for the Civil Rights Movement and the anti-nuclear movement. We know not everyone will be able to take time off work, travel to DC, and risk being arrested. But if you can afford to come, there couldn’t be a more important time to take action. Action Schedule - Monday, October 11th: Indigenous-led action on Indigenous Peoples Day.
- Tuesday, October 12: Fossil fuels are driving the climate crisis.
- Wednesday, October 13: Climate chaos is happening now.
- Thursday, October 14: We need real solutions, not false promises.
- Friday, October 15: We did not vote for fossil fuels. Youth-led action.
