Tell NRC: Running nuclear reactors for up to 80 years is inherently dangerous.
NRC must fully consider the risks to the public, environment, and future generations from radioactive contamination and nuclear disaster.
The NRC is preparing to adopt a new environmental review that would "generically" gloss over the impacts of running existing nuclear reactors for up to 80 years. We need your voice. In seeking to narrow the number and scope of the environmental issues that must be addressed during the relicensing process for nuclear power plants, the NRC has neglected to effectively engage the public and has failed to address the inherent dangers and real-world impacts of operating nuclear reactors for decades beyond their intended lifespan.
The bottom line is: every nuclear power plant site is different and the environmental impacts of operation must be assessed on a site-specific basis. Don’t let the NRC endanger reactor communities and the environment by these misguided environmental regulations that fail to protect the public from radioactive dangers.
The NRC must extend the comment deadline, address inadequate and unreasonable guidance, and expand opportunities for public involvement.
Tell NRC by May 2nd: The proposed Generic Environmental Impact Statement must be substantially revised, and then republished for public review
