Urge NY Governor Hochul to STOP Holtec from dumping radioactive wastewater into the Hudson River
Tell Governor Kathy Hochul to sign S6893/A7208 and stop reckless radioactive dumping into the Hudson River.
Holtec International, the firm responsible for decommissioning the Indian Point nuclear power plant, has stated that it will resume discharging radioactive wastewater into the Hudson River. The state legislature passed the bill (S6893/A7208) by state Senator Pete Harckharm and Assemblymember Dana Levenberg. The state Senate passed the bill unanimously. The state Assembly passed the bill with a veto-proof majority this week, and sent it to Gov. Hochul’s desk. But the governor has not said she will sign it.
The contaminated wastewater must be securely stored on the Indian Point site while methods to isolate it are evaluated. It’s time to draw the line against using the Hudson as a dumping ground for tritium, a radioactive isotope present in the wastewater. Ingestion of tritium is linked to cancer, and children and pregnant women are most vulnerable.
